Errors, caused by incorrect data entry, are the source of many problems related to data management.<\/li>\n<li>Leave no blank\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rows<\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">columns<\/span>\u00a0when entering the data. This includes\u00a0<b>NOT<\/b>\u00a0leaving a blank row between the column headings and the first row of data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-358\" alt=\"11\" src=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/11-300x188.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Enter the data into cells A1 to G6 as seen in the image above.\u00a0<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Creating the Pivot Table<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Drag select cells A2 to G6\u00a0 to highlight them.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Insert tab of the ribbon.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the down arrow at the bottom of Pivot Table button to open the drop down list.<\/li>\n<li>Click on\u00a0<i>Pivot Table<\/i>\u00a0in the list to open the\u00a0<i>Create Pivot Table<\/i>\u00a0dialog box.<\/li>\n<li>By pre-selecting the data range A2 to G6,the Table\/Range line in the dialog box should be filled in for us.<\/li>\n<li>Choose\u00a0<i>New Worksheet<\/i>\u00a0for the location of the pivot table.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-359\" alt=\"12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/12-300x188.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>7. Click OK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-360\" alt=\"13\" src=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/13-300x188.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A blank pivot table should appear on the new\u00a0 worksheet as shown in the above image.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>Pivot Table Field List<\/i>\u00a0panel should open on the right hand side of the Excel window.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the\u00a0<i>Pivot Table Field List<\/i>\u00a0panel are the field names ( column headings ) from our data table. The data areas at the bottom of the panel are linked to the pivot table.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Adding Data to the Pivot Table<\/h3>\n<p>You have two choices when it comes to adding data to the Pivot Table:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drag the field names from the\u00a0<i>Pivot Table Field List<\/i>\u00a0panel and drop them on the Pivot Table in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheets.about.com\/od\/uvw\/g\/worksheet_def.htm\">worksheet<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Drag the field names to the bottom of the\u00a0<i>Pivot Table Field List<\/i>\u00a0panel and drop them in the data areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The data areas in the\u00a0<i>Pivot Table Field List<\/i>\u00a0panel are linked to corresponding areas of the pivot table. As you add the field names to the data areas, your data is added to the pivot table.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on which fields are placed in which data area, different results can be obtained.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/14.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-361\" alt=\"14\" src=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/14-300x188.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Filtering the Pivot Table Data<\/h3>\n<p>The Pivot Table has built in filtering tools that can be used to fine tune the results shown by the Pivot Table.<\/p>\n<p>Filtering data involves using specific criteria to limit what data is displayed by the Pivot Table.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the down arrow next to the\u00a0<i>All <\/i>\u00a0heading in the Pivot Table to open the filter&#8217;s drop down list.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the check box next to the\u00a0<i>Select All<\/i>\u00a0option to remove the check mark from all the boxes in this list.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the check boxes next and select the particular one options to add check marks to these boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Click OK.<\/li>\n<li>The Pivot Table should now show only the selected data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-362\" alt=\"15\" src=\"http:\/\/www.siriinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/15-300x188.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Entering the Pivot Table Data The first step in creating a pivot table is to enter the\u00a0data\u00a0into the\u00a0worksheet.
